Parliment on legs
Just a thought: By dividing important sections of parliment up into mobile entityies, will this enable eleements of 'Parliment' to remain safe during an invasion. It will also alow communities in war stricken areas to have a connection to the government.
Gotye
Mobility / virtuality and flexibilty is addressed through Gotyes film clip 'Eyes Wide Open.' Throughout the film clip large spider like robots move through an extreamly industrial and derilict country side. The video and images are very inspirational and worth a look at.

CHuck Hoberman - Take 2 - Adaption
Nowhere do the disciplines of art, architecture, and engineering fuse as seamlessly as in the work of inventor Chuck Hoberman, internationally known for his “transformable structures.” Through his products, patents, and structures, Hoberman demonstrates how objects can be foldable, retractable, or shape-shifting. Such capabilities lead to functional benefits: portability, instantaneous opening, and intelligent responsiveness to the built environment.
His most recogniseable and famous invention would be this .....
Hoberman’s work has been exhibited several times at the Museum of Modern Art in New York. In 2008 his commissioned installation Emergent Surface was part of the exhibit “Design and the Elastic Mind.”
On a smaller scale, Hoberman has used his folding systems to create, for example, a collapsible tent made from a single sheet of fabric and a briefcase that collapses, accordian-like, to the size of a shoebox, as well as a number of toys.
Related to the below images:
Related to as 'Flexible Architecture' this structure is classified as being a kinetic geometry, every individual panel is interconnected and moves together to retract the screen.

When is a building a mechanism? When is a mechanism a piece of art?
Is this just a minute extension of the mechanisms within day to day households.

What if?
At this stage allot of brainstorming is occurring. Ideas that are extremely far fetched are being thought of to generate a solution that is futuristic and head of current times.
The image below shows Sydney Harbor being invaded from the ocean.
What are they coming for?
What does Australia have that someone else wants?
Looking at Canberra's town plan, as earlia discussed it is extremely structured. With this same city framework in place an insight into a futuristic Canberra in 100 years time is drawn out.

Mobile - Pneumatic
In traditional architecture it was the structure of the buildings which determined their internal environments, whereas in Pneumatic Architecture structural stability is the result of the release of internal energy (air or gas pressure) with a membrane or bag (often made of PVC-coated nylon). This kind of architecture is, therefore, a sub-category of pressurized construction (water or other liquids can also be used to pressurize). Three main types of pneumatics have been identified: air-inflated, air-supported and air-controlled. Because of their mode of construction, pneumatics generally consist of curved forms such as domes or half-cylinders. Their rounded forms, organic and responsive characteristics, have prompted some writers to compare them to the human body.

Advancements in Creation
The saying of 'anything is possible' is starting to beome extreamly realistic day by day. Andrea Morgante, founder of Shiro Studio, has collaborated with D-Shape to produce the Radiolaria pavilion, a complex, free-form structure produced using the world’s largest 3D printer.

Mobility - Symbolic Structure
In some cases around the world architectural implementations have been attached to parliament to indicate to the people control / purity of a government. An infamous case is the Reichtag in Berlin. Obviously Germany's history of corruption and slaughter is one of the most rememberd of our time, this could be because of it's recency to current time or purely because of the richness in unethical behaviour behind it.
Below is a sketch of how Reichtag works. Atop the Parliament house in Berlin is a Glass dome fitted with a teared mirror chandelier that leads down into the mane chamber of parliament. The symbolic nature of this architectural add on is of the highest importance. It indicates to the people of Germany that there desires / thoughts / needs as a nation are being 'reflected' into parliament. It also is a representation of purity within the current Parliament and allows the secretive 'barriers' between government and citizens to be errased.
_Just a thought: Creating a mobile structure that attaches itself to different parliaments world wide to indicate to there respective nation that change / purity is occurring.
Much like the Flag flying high above Buckingham palace indicates to its people that the queen is home this mobile additive is a means of communication between parliament and citizens.

Social Segregation - Issue
One of the largest political issues in todays modern day society is the fight between social classes. Just last month in one of the Worlds most developed and democraticly successfull countries (United Kingdom) riots broke out - all over the Social Segregation between different classes of people. In an outbreak across London and many other cities within the UK rebellions of anger / pain and pure hate were expressed towards the upper class society. Weather it was retaliation, jealousy or frustration - this happens all over the world. People choose not to conform to laws.
It's almost as if these rebels need a space in which they can have there say without resorting to inflicting violence.

Flexibile - Issues
Through the brainstorming of current issues effecting the Australian parliament the quest for a resolution seemed just 1 step away. Linking particular issues together indicated that most of these current problems fuel each other.
_Just a thought: What is a flexible system that can be catered to control such issues?

Just like Rubber
Looking at the town plan of Canberra it indicates high levels of controlled planning. The formal circular grid shows the heir achy of the Capital and gives off the feeling of 'over done' from a planning perspective. Overall Canberra isn't a very inviting place to visit, it could very well be because of this nature.
Was this a ploy to demonstrate control on the behalf of the parliament?
_Just a thought: if the town plan was 'flexible' in that the strict structure of the city was more like a rubber band, would it make this city more appealing?

Flexible Designer
Discussing the notion of flexibility it was bought up about designers being flexible in what they design. Below are some inspirational images of a designer who once worked for NASA as a space ship designer. I's obvious the inspiration he has drawn from his past expertise.

Changing the perception
_Just a thought:
Through the incorporation of having an outer skin with an interior function completely different, buildings / structures are able to manipulate there occupants. If the function within the structure remains constant maybe the skin on the exterior is flexible. The flexibility can be through mobility or a possible interchanging facade treatment that changes to suit its location.

Flexible - Adapation
Some simplistic yet well translated diagrams below showcase how easy it is to convey specific adaptions to form.
_Universal: what typifies a universally flexible building is its ease of adaptation per use. these buildings are often characterized by open floor plans and typology free design (case studies: s.r. crown hall, eames house).
_Adaptable: adaptable structures features repositionable partitions or are changeable per user/occupant (case studies: rietveld schroeder house, japanese housing).
_Responsive: responsive buildings can respond to a number of external stimuli, including, but not limited to, energy/environment, interaction, usage, or occupation (case studies: allianz arena, institut du monde arab).

Virtual - Telepathy
_just a thought:
If parliament was to have further control over its nation could it indeed share telepathic thoughts with its population on an individual level to maintain power. Each citizen would then have a uniform path of thought and beleifs, although this sounds ideal for corrupt nations, the notion of individuality that sculpts today's society would be eliminated.
